Chateau Haut Bergey

The history of Haut-Bergey goes back to the 15th century. In the eighteenth century the estate was owned by Jean-François de Cresse , a counselor of the parliament of Bordeaux , and had a surface of 100 hectares. The vineyard was abandoned in the late nineteenth century but rebuilt in the 1950s by Sylviane Garcin Cathiards , granddaughter of a wine merchant and sister of Daniel Cathiards , the owner of Smith Haut - Lafitte who purchased the domaine in 1991 of Jacques Deschamps . They then undertook a broad and ambitious renovation project with the creation of a winery with stainless steel tanks and an air-conditioned barrel cellar. They also planted 2 hectares of white varieties. The 27 hectares counting vineyards are located in the heart of the village of Léognan.
