Maison Verget

In 1976, Maine and Jean-Marie Guffens-Heynen leave their homeland Belgium for Burgundy. These young students give themselves one year to learn French and discover wine.
 
When they arrive, Jean-Marie starts studying viticulture in the agricultural high-school in Davayé and Maine works for local wine growers. Short after, they become managers of a small estate in the Mâconnais region. They learn how to work the vineyard and Jean-Marie how to vinify the wine. In 1979, they purchased a few parcels on the hills of Pierreclos. Enthusiastic but inexperienced, they apprehend wine growing and wine making in an almost instinctive way.

Nothing, indeed, in their education could have led them to land working : Fine Arts for Maine, theatre and architecture for Jean-Marie. But their sensibility, their creativity combined with a real passion for wine turns them into wine growers whose talent is widely recognized.

Today Domaine Guffens-Heynen is famous worldwide both for the quality of its wines and the unusual personality of its owners
