This grape is crossed by Louis and Henri Bouchet in 1855 in a place called Mauguio (Hérault), by crossing the Grenache and Petit Bouschet N.
The clusters are medium to large and the berries are of medium size. This grape is primarily used in blends for its ability to give wine a dark color. The resulting wines are very fat and often lacking in finesse and elegance.
