The Gamay grape originated from Burgundy. Genetical analysis shows the gamay to be a hybride from the pinot noir and Gouis Blanc.
The clusters are small, the grapes medium-sized. There are several ways to make wine from the Gamay grape: maceration carbonique ( think Beaujolais nouveau) or an oxidative way to make wine ( think Morgon)
It is even well suited to make a fruity rosé wine.
